Frequently Asked Questions

Honest answers to the questions we hear most. Still have one? Call (860) 421-0144.

Do you accept new patients? +
Yes โ€” we are actively welcoming new patients and their families. Call (860) 421-0144 to schedule. New patients receive a comprehensive exam, cleaning, and X-rays for $185.
What insurance do you accept? +
We accept most major dental insurance plans including Delta Dental, Cigna, Aetna, United Concordia, and others. Call us and we will verify your specific coverage before your appointment.
What if I don't have insurance? +
Our new patient special โ€” $185 for exam, cleaning, and X-rays โ€” provides excellent value regardless of insurance. We also work with CareCredit and other financing options to make larger treatments affordable.
Do you offer financing? +
Yes. We accept CareCredit, which offers extended payment plans with low or no interest for qualified patients. Ask at the front desk about current options.
I haven't been to a dentist in years. Will you judge me? +
Not at all. We see patients who've let years go by more often than you might think, and we approach those situations without judgment. Our job is to get you back on track, not make you feel bad about where you've been.
How often should I come in for a cleaning and exam? +
Twice a year for most people. Some patients with gum disease, higher cavity risk, or certain health conditions benefit from more frequent visits every 3โ€“4 months. We'll recommend what's right for your situation.
What is CEREC and why does it matter? +
CEREC is our in-office system that designs and mills ceramic crowns right here โ€” no lab, no temporary, no second appointment. You get a permanent crown the same day, typically in about 90 minutes.
Are digital X-rays safe? +
Yes. Digital X-rays require significantly less radiation than traditional film โ€” up to 90% less. We take X-rays only when clinically indicated for your specific situation.
How do I know if I need a root canal? +
Common signs include prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, spontaneous toothache, pain when biting, or swelling near a tooth. Sometimes infected teeth have no symptoms at all โ€” which is another reason regular exams matter.
What do I do if I have a dental emergency? +
Call (860) 421-0144. We try to see emergency patients the same day. If it's after hours, follow the instructions on our voicemail for after-hours guidance.
At what age should my child first see a dentist? +
By their first birthday, or within 6 months of their first tooth erupting. Early visits normalize the experience before there's anything to treat.
How long does Invisalign take? +
It depends on the case. Simple cases can resolve in 6โ€“12 months. More complex cases may take 18โ€“24 months. A consultation will give you a clearer timeline based on your specific needs.
Do you place dental implants in-house? +
Yes. Dr. Tabai places and restores implants right here in our Unionville office. No referral to an outside surgeon โ€” one team, one location, from start to finish.
How can I tell if I have gum disease? +
Common signs include gums that bleed when you brush or floss, persistent bad breath, swollen or tender gums, or teeth that appear longer from gum recession. But gum disease often has no obvious symptoms early on โ€” which is why professional screening at each visit matters.
Do you offer payment plans? +
Yes. We work with CareCredit for financing options. Ask at the front desk โ€” we'll help find a payment approach that works for your situation.
