A dental crown is a full-coverage restoration that fits over a damaged tooth like a protective cap, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance. When a tooth has been significantly weakened by decay, fracture, or a large filling, a crown gives it a second life — stronger than it was before the damage occurred.
At Newpoint Family Dental in Unionville, CT, we use tooth-colored ceramic and zirconia crowns that blend seamlessly with your natural teeth. And with our CEREC same-day technology, many crowns can be designed, milled, and placed in a single appointment — no temporary crown, no second visit.
When Is a Crown Recommended?
- A tooth with a large cavity that's too extensive for a filling
- A cracked or fractured tooth that needs protection
- After root canal therapy to strengthen the treated tooth
- A worn-down or misshapen tooth that needs rebuilding
- As the final restoration on a dental implant
- To improve the appearance of a front tooth
Same-Day Crowns with CEREC
Traditional crowns require two visits and a temporary restoration while the crown is made at an outside lab. With CEREC, we take a digital scan of your tooth, design the crown chairside using advanced CAD/CAM software, and mill it from a solid block of ceramic right in our office. The entire process takes about 90 minutes, and you leave with your permanent crown in place.
Crown Materials
We primarily use all-ceramic crowns (e-max and zirconia) because they offer outstanding aesthetics, biocompatibility, and durability. Zirconia crowns are exceptionally strong and ideal for back teeth that bear heavy chewing forces. E-max porcelain provides beautiful translucency for front teeth. We'll recommend the best material based on the tooth's location, your bite, and your cosmetic goals.
Patients from Farmington, Avon, Simsbury, and across Farmington Valley choose Newpoint for crown work because we combine advanced technology with meticulous attention to fit and appearance.
